Facebook will roll out Vine-like video to the photo sharing app Instagram, the technology website TechCrunch reported on Monday citing a source.
The unidentified source confirmed the feature will roll out at a much-anticipated Facebook event scheduled for June 20th. If the source is spot on, the addition of video to Instagram would come exactly one month after The Desk first reported that Facebook was testing the Vine-like function for the photo sharing app.
It should come as no surprise that Facebook would want a feature to rival Twitter’s Vine. Last year, Instagram cut off Twitter card support (or, simply, the ability to preview an Instagram picture from within Twitter’s web and mobile applications).
Earlier this month, Topsy Analytics reported that Vine surpassed Instagram for the first time on Twitter.
