A Wisconsin golf club is catching heat on Twitter and Facebook after the business ran an advertisement in a local newspaper commemorating the upcoming anniversary of the September 11 terror attack.

On Monday, the Wisconsin State Journal printed an advertisement coupon for the Tumbledown Trails Golf Course in nearby Verona that offered readers a discount on a golf game on Wednesday.

“12TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9-11: To commemorate this we are offering 9 holes with cart for only $9.11 per person,” the advertisement read.

Nine holes of golf with a cart normally costs anywhere from $22 to $26 on a weekday, according to the course’s website. Tumbledown Trails did not say if proceeds from the special rate of $9.11 would go to a charity.

Some found the advertisement “commemorating” the upcoming anniversary to be in poor taste.

“I don’t know who approved this ad or promotion, but I can tell you that I thin that it is terrible taste,” State Journal reader Brian Graham wrote on the golf course’s Facebook page. ” Do you really think that it is something to commemorate with a round of golf?”

A message was left with Tumbledown Trails after business hours and went unreturned as of Monday evening.

More than 2,900 people were killed and over 6,000 people injured on September 11, 2001 when four hijacked planes crashed into buildings in New York City and Washington, D.C. as well as an empty field in Pennsylvania. Among those killed in New York were 343 firefighters, 37 Port Authority police officers and 15 paramedics.
