Paramount Plus debuts in Australia

ViacomCBS on Wednesday launched its blockbuster premium streamer Paramount Plus in Australia, marking the first time the streaming service has been made available outside of North America.

Paramount Plus is immediately accessible across a wide range of streaming devices, including Apple TV, Android TV (Google TV) and Amazon Fire TV (Roku devices are not sold directly in Australia.) as well as through smartphone and tablet apps for Apple’s iOS and Android devices.

In addition to the usual streaming platforms, ViacomCBS said it forged partnerships with Telstra and IP-based Fetch TV to make the service available as a native app to those pay TV customers.

“We are excited to launch Paramount Plus on such a broad range of platforms,” Liz Baldwin, the ViacomCBS senior executive in charge of streaming initiatives in Australia and New Zealand, said in a statement.

Like its stateside companion, Paramount Plus is expected to offer content from the portfolio of broadcast and cable properties operated by ViacomCBS, including the CBS network, Smithsonian Channel, MTV, VH1, BET, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures.

In addition to that content, Paramount Plus will offer content from Australian broadcaster Network 10, which ViacomCBS owns, as well as live football matches from the A-League and W-League.

The service will cost Australian TV viewers AU$9 a month (US$6.60 a month) or AU$90 a year for access to more than 20,000 hours of television and film content.
