Comcast says its flagship streaming service Peacock now has more than 28 million monthly subscribers, an increase of more than 4 million subscribers compared to the previous year.

The figure was reported as part of Comcast’s quarterly earnings released on Thursday.

Of those 28 million subscribers, Comcast said 13 million pay between $5 and $10 a month for access to premium features such as the ability to access an extended library of content and to stream some TV shows and movies without commercials.

“We expect more modest subscriber gains until we get to the back half of this year,” Brian Roberts, Comcast’s chief executive, said in a statement. “Our fourth quarter should be fantastic, with sporting events such as Sunday Night Football, Premier League and the World Cup.”

Comcast said sports as well as an increased content library could help spur growth later this year. The company’s NBC subsidiary intends to move TV shows off Hulu and house them on Peacock as Comcast works to unwind its investment in Hulu, which is majority-owned and controlled by the Walt Disney Company.
