The CW will merge two streaming television apps into a single user experience that marries prime-time content with older shows and movies, an executive with the company said on Tuesday.

The move will see the placement of older CW shows and licensed content that once appeared on the standalone “CW Seed” app merged into the flagship CW app, which currently offers prime-time programming aired on the broadcast network.

“With this new CW app, we are providing fans with one destination to catch up with their favorite current CW series and at the same time discover full seasons of highly bingeable shows from the CW Seed catalog, increasing overall engagement with all our programs and allowing the brand to live its most authentic self,” Richard Haskins, the chief branding executive in charge of streaming, said in a statement.

Current full seasons of CW programs will be offered through the CW’s app for a while after they air on the broadcast network. Those shows will eventually move to Paramount Plus and HBO Max. The CW is jointly owned by Paramount Global and AT&T’s WarnerMedia, the latter of which operates HBO Max. Shows that aired prior to 2019 are available to stream in their entirety on Netflix while select episodes are accessible through the CW app.
