Crayola launches studio business to produce kid-friendly shows

Arts supply company Crayola will soon begin making its own kid-friendly video content through the launch of a new content production business, the company announced this month.

The Crayola Studios division will license its intellectual property to third party content studios. Its first project, “The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian,” will be developed in partnership with MIMO Studio and is a spin-off of the popular kid-focused podcast series.

Crayola Studios will be run by Victoria Lozano, the executive vice president of marketing at Crayola, with more appointments to be announced soon.

“As world leaders in creative self-expression, the establishment of Crayola Studios is a logical next step for us, it builds on plans announced last year to develop entertainment content that inspires and nurtures the next generation and helps them develop lifelong creative mindsets,” Lozano said in a statement. “Our unique perspective offers an exciting opportunity for the industry as it searches for stand out new and trusted content that has creativity at its heart.”

MIMO Studio is led by former Nickelodeon boss Cyma Zarghami, who said the company is excited to partner with Crayola Studios on the development of the show.

“We have been cultivating The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian since we first identified it and immediately saw the great potential and opportunity to tell rich stories in video the way Gen-Z Media did in the podcast,” Zarghami said. “The combination of great characters, creativity, adventures, and information is something we can’t wait to bring to audiences worldwide.”

It wasn’t immediately clear if Crayola plans to distribute the project through traditional television like broadcast and cable, or if the program will be offered through free or premium streaming services.
