ESPN’s coverage of the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix drew nearly 2 million viewers to ABC early Sunday morning, the company affirmed this week.

An average of 1.965 million viewers watched the race live on ABC, the third-largest ever for a Formula 1 race in the United States, second only to the 2024 and 2022 editions of the Miami Grand Prix.

“Despite a 45-minute delay due to a major crash on the first lap, the audience between 9-11:30 a.m. was up seven percent over the 1.833 million average for the 2023 race, which was the first time the Monaco Grand Prix had aired live on ABC,” an ESPN spokesperson said in a statement, citing Nielsen data.

“When the race resumed at 9:45 a.m. after the opening lap crash, an average of 2.07 million viewers watched until the conclusion,” the spokesperson confirmed.

Formula 1 will return to ABC on Sunday, June 9 with live coverage of the AWS Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. The race will stream live on ESPN Plus, with a Spanish-language simulcast available on ESPN Deportes.
