LG rolling out new “LG Channels” experience on smart TVs

LG Channels 3.0 is debuting first in South Korea, and will become available on LG-branded smart TVs in the United States next month.

Electronics maker LG is rolling out an update to its free, ad-supported streaming service LG Channels.

The new experience, called LG Channel 3.0, includes a refreshed user interface, improved navigation and an enhanced channel guide for more than 300 linear streams made available through the service.

LG Channel 3.0 is primarily divided into three sections: Home, Live and On-Demand. The new sections are pretty self-explanatory: The Home screen offers content discovery that is tailored to the TV user, while also offering live and on-demand content to stream right from the TV set.

The Live screen serves up an electronic program guide that shows a currently-playing video on half of the screen, while providing television listings across hundreds of linear streams available on LG Channels. The On-Demand screen offers thousands of movies and TV shows available to stream at an instant.

LG Channels is available in more than two dozen countries, and the LG Channel 3.0 experience is launching this month in South Korea. The new experience will roll out to users in the United States in October.
