Journalist Dan Abrams has launched an offshoot of his popular media-centric publication Mediaite that will focus on how British television news outlets are covering some of the biggest current events and political stories of the day.

The new site, called Mediaite UK, will combine video clips from the BBC, Sky News, GB News, Talk TV and others along with the same style of analysis and opinion found on its American counterpart.

“In the same way Fleet Street — with the Sun and the Daily Mail — has sought to conquer the American media landscape by opening up U.S. shops, Mediaite intends to bring our cutthroat coverage of the media industry across the pond,” Aidan McLaughlin, Mediaite’s editor-in-chief, said in a statement emailed to The Desk.

To help lead its coverage, Mediaite UK has hired former Vice News journalist David Gilmour to “keep an eye on major news coming out of the media industry in Europe.”

“We will strike a global chord to match the pace and scope of British media as it navigates seismic changes sparked by digital advancements and shifting audience habits — which force outlets to reevaluate both their journalism practices and underlying business strategies,” Gilmour wrote in an inaugural post on Mediaite UK.

The American-based website says it grabs around 80 million monthly page views, and it hopes to replicate that success with its UK-based publication.

Mediaite was launched by Abrams in 2009. It is now part of the Abrams Media Network, which also includes the Law & Crime Trial Network and the alcohol-focused publication Whiskey Raiders.

In addition to his publisher duties at Abrams Media Network, Abrams is the host of “Dan Abrams Live” on Nexstar’s cable news upstart NewsNation; the chief legal correspondent for ABC News; and the host of several true crime reality shows.
