T-Mobile and Major League Baseball (MLB) have extended their partnership that will see the wireless phone service provide several 5G-related technologies to the professional sports league.
As part of the deal, T-Mobile customers stand to benefit the most, with the company affirming it will continue offering free access to MLB.TV through 2028. A subscription to MLB.TV, which offers out-of-market access to live baseball games, typically costs $150 at the start of the season.
The partnership will also see T-Mobile use its 5G private mobile network to test an automated ball-strike system at Minor League Baseball (MiLB) games and sponsor both T-Mobile Home Run Derby during the MLB All-Star Weekend and the Little League Baseball World Series, among other initiatives.
“T-Mobile and MLB are embarking on a six-year journey to deliver breakthrough fan experiences, and it’s all thanks to our leading 5G network,” Mike Sievert, the CEO of T-Mobile, said in a statement on Thursday. “We’re enhancing the game on and off the field to give fans across the country even more ways to enjoy the game we all love, on top of showing our customers love with free MLB.TV.”
Along with the sponsorship, T-Mobile says it remains committed to building out its 5G network connectivity at MLB stadiums, a move that will also help subscribers stay connected beyond the ballpark.
