The company behind the Tablo DVR says it is nearly finished with an Apple TV app that will work with the fourth-generation model of the device.

In a forum post spotted by The Desk this week, officials at Tablo parent company Nuvyyo said they are seeking beta testers who are willing to try out the new Apple TV app and help developers squash any bugs before the app is officially released.

Streamers and TV fans who are interested in beta testing the Apple TV app for the fourth-generation Tablo DVR must have an active account on the Tablo community form and will be required to fill out a short application for the program.

Additionally, prospective beta testers for the fourth-generation Tablo app for Apple TV must own at least one fourth-generation Tablo DVR model and own an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K device capable of installing apps.

Those who are accepted into the program must be willing to install app and firmware updates, and provide regular feedback through a private community forum set up for beta testers.

“Space is limited, so we cannot accept all applicants,” a Tablo spokesperson said.

Tablo allows streamers to watch free broadcast television on smart TV platforms, phones and tablets. The Tablo utilizes an antenna to pull in free-to-air TV signals, including affiliates of major broadcast networks like ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, and includes DVR features that allow viewers to record TV shows and movies for later playback.

The Tablo DVR pairs with a companion app that allows users to watch live and recorded TV content across different devices. Tablo currently offers apps for the fourth-generation DVR via Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV (Google TV). The Apple TV app for the fourth-generation Tablo has been listed as “coming soon” since the device debuted last year. Legacy Tablo DVRs work with all four platforms.

The fourth-generation Tablo DVR is available to purchase via the Tablo website, at Best Buy and on Amazon.com.
