Retired National Football League (NFL) quarterback Tom Brady will take a year off before joining Fox Sports as an on-air analyst in 2024.

The announcement was made on the Fox Sports Radio program “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” Monday. Brady, who served the majority of his career as a quarterback for the New England Patriots before ending his time with the NFL in the same role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, announced his retirement from professional football last week.

Brady signed a commitment with Fox Corporation last year to serve in a then-unnamed sports broadcast role upon his retirement. The specifics of the role and his start date weren’t revealed at the time.

On Monday, Brady told Cowherd he wanted to take a year to “decompress” from his professional career, which will also give him the opportunity to watch Fox Sports’ current broadcast team. Brady isn’t expected to replace play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt or current Fox Sports analyst Greg Olsen, who took over for play-by-play announcer Joe Buck and analyst Troy Aikman when the duo moved to the Walt Disney Company for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

Brady’s official start with Fox Sports will occur in late 2024, concurrent with the 2024-2025 NFL season. In the meantime, Brady says he intends to watch NFL games while working on his two production companies.
