Comcast renews WBD distribution agreement, gets bundling rights to Max
Comcast will be able to bundle Max and Discovery Plus on Xfinity TV, Sky and Now TV in several countries.
Sky Group is a European mass media company that is owned by American telecommunications giant Comcast. The company operates three satellite television services — Sky UK, Sky Italia (Italy) and Sky Deutschland (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) — as well as the Now TV streaming service in the United Kingdom.
Comcast will be able to bundle Max and Discovery Plus on Xfinity TV, Sky and Now TV in several countries.
The price of the service is just £15 per month, and includes access to more than 100 channels from Sky.
Sky Group saw its operating loss more than double this year, the company revealed this week.
The deal, set to expire next year, dates back to 2011, allowing Sky to distribute HBO and other WBD-owned shows and movies on Sky Atlantic.
The move will impact TV viewers who have not yet upgraded their satellite TV boxes to support high definition signals.
The agency said a campaign for a discounted TV package ran afoul of misleading advertising rules by not fully disclosing its limitations.
It marks the first time Xumo Play, as a service, has been made available outside the United States.
The entertainment giant has explored possible ways to bundle Max with various telecom products, according to a report.
