The San Francisco Media Company will launch the region’s first marijuana-themed newspaper in January, according to people familiar with the publisher’s plans.
The forthcoming San Francisco Evergreen is set to formally replace the San Francisco Bay Guardian, a legacy alternative paper the Media Company shut to great public dismay in October.
The Desk first reported in October on the Media Company’s plans to launch a pot-centric newspaper. The tentative title for the paper was “Chem Tales,” and it was believed the paper would serve as an aggregate of marijuana news and columns from the San Francisco Examiner and other Media Company-owned newspapers.
According to two sources, the Media Company has created a mock-up of what the Evergreen is expected to look like when it is published. The mock-up has been distributed to various potential advertising clients throughout the Bay Area.
The online supplement of the newspaper will be published at SFEvergreen.com.
The paper, which will be published monthly, is scheduled for launch on January 26.
