Update: Andrew Shanahan was spotted by a helicopter, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said late Monday afternoon. He was found on a “steep cliff,” rescued and is now recovering, authorities say.
The original story follows below:
Officials are searching for the nephew of a Sacramento television meteorologist after police say he went missing during a hike in Northern California.
Andrew Shanahan, 25, was last seen in the Foresthill area, according to Placer County law enforcement officials. Shanahan is the nephew of KTXL (Channel 40) meteorologist Dennis Shanahan, the station reported on Monday.
Andrew Shanahan was camping with a friend over the weekend when they became separated during a hike, law enforcement officials said. Anyone who has seen Shanahan is asked to contact the Placer County Sheriff’s Department at (530) 886-5375.
Andrew Shanahan’s disappearance is the second newsworthy incident involving a relative of the TV meteorologist in the last six years. In 2014, Dennis Shanahan’s other nephew, Nick Fagnano, was killed during a lightning storm in Venice Beach. Fagnano was slated to attend school at the University of Southern California when the incident occurred, Shanahan told local TV station KTLA (Channel 5).
