Hulu may drop Nexstar local stations for live TV customers

Some Hulu customers have received an email warning that they may lose local channels operated by Nexstar Media Group.

On Thursday, several Hulu customers said they received a message alerting them to a pending carriage dispute between the Walt Disney Company-owned service and several Nexstar stations that are affiliated with the ABC broadcast network.

At least two Nexstar-owned ABC stations — Erie station WJET (Channel 24) and Nashville station WKRN (Channel 2) — have confirmed the possible loss of their local signal on Hulu’s Live TV service.

In response, Hulu has replaced some of these stations with a national feed of ABC programming, according to reports.

It was not immediately clear whether Disney and Nexstar were negotiating over future carriage of the affected stations, and it is not known if the carriage dispute might impact local stations affiliated with networks other than ABC.
