SiriusXM Pandora has acquired 99 Percent Invisible Company, the media production outlet behind the eponymous storytelling podcast hosted by Roman Mars.
The announcement was made in a press release issued Monday morning. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The production company will join SiriusXM Pandora’s podcast subsidiary Stitcher, which was acquired last year from the E. W. Scripps Company for $325 million.
Mars launched the storytelling podcast in 2010 with the support of fans through the crowdfunding service Kickstarter. The show has been downloaded more than 500 million times, SiriusXM Pandora said, and has led to the production of other programs, including “What Trump Can Teach Us About Con Law,” “Judas and the Black Messiah” and “According to Need.”
“Moving forward, the entire 99 Percent Invisible team will have the resources and support to pursue the stories we want to tell to an even larger universe of listeners,” Mars said in a statement distributed by SiriusXM Pandora on Monday. “We could not be more excited to be joining the Stitcher family at SiriusXM.”
Though SiriusXM Pandora offers podcasts throughout its SiriusXM and Pandora streaming radio apps along with the Stitcher platform, the company has no current plans to remove any shows produced by 99 Percent Invisible Company from competing podcast services like Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
