AMC Networks has rolled out localized versions of its subscription streaming service AMC Plus to a handful of countries in Europe and Asia, the media company announced this week.
Over the last few months, versions of AMC Plus became available in Spain, India and South Korea, bringing viewers in those countries hit American dramas and comedies like “Breaking Bad,” “The Walking Dead” and “Better Call Saul.”
“These recent international launches highlight the growing demand for AMC Plus across major affiliates and distribution partners as we bring our slate of groundbreaking dramas and epic fan-driven franchises to new audiences,” Miquel Penella, the president of streaming services at AMC Networks, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to working with key operators and platforms as we continue the global rollout of AMC Plus in the months ahead.”
AMC Plus launched in 2020 as a cable-free way for American streaming viewers to watch AMC content. In addition to on-demand series and licensed movies, AMC Plus includes linear streams of its cable networks, including IFC, Sundance, We TV, BBC America and BBC World News.
Executives at AMC have never revealed the exact number of customers AMC Plus has cultivated in its two-year existence, but the number is expected to be comparatively smaller than that of other services launched by competing broadcasters.
Along with AMC Plus, the company also operates British-themed service Acorn TV, horror-centric Shudder, indie streamer Sundance Now, ALLBLK and HiDive. AMC says it has nearly 11 million global customers across all of its different services and is on track to have 20 million to 25 million paying customers by 2025.
In the United States, AMC Plus is available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Google TV devices. Streamers can also purchase a subscription to AMC Plus within a number of third-party apps, including the Roku Channel, Amazon Prime Video and the Apple TV app.
In Spain and South Korea, the service can be accessed through a number of pay television platforms. Streamers in Spain and India can also purchase a subscription to AMC Plus through Amazon Prime Video or the Apple TV app.
Localized versions of AMC Plus are also available to streamers in Australia and New Zealand, where the service can be downloaded on phones, tablets and smart TV sets.
