Amazon Prime Day has tons of deals for cord-cutters

Amazon’s biggest shopping event of the year started Tuesday, and the retailer is already offering a number of great deals for cord-cutters and cord-nevers alike.

This year, Amazon is doing a few things different, with some of its best deals like requiring an “invite,” or a reserve in line, due to low quantities offered at certain prices.

That certainly isn’t the case with everything, but Amazon Prime customers will have to be especially diligent if they want to take advantage of the best offers.

Prime Day was first held in 2015, and it has since become one of the biggest shopping events of the year. In 2022, Amazon Prime Day generated over $11 billion in sales. To participate in Prime Day, you must be an Amazon Prime member. If you are not already a member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial. Prime Day deals are available for a limited time only (through Wednesday evening, in this case), so it is important to act fast if you see something you want.

Here are some of the best deals for tech lovers, cord-cutters and streaming TV fans alike:

Amazon Fire TV devices

The best deal during Amazon Prime Day is the 43-inch Omni 4K TV set at just $100 (normally $400). The TV set offers ultra-high definition (UHD/4K) video with support for HDR 10 and Dolby Digital Plus, offering excellent color and contrast for streaming apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, Hulu, Paramount Plus, Peacock, YouTube and others. The deal requires an “invitation,” but you can reserve one for your chance to get the 43-inch Omni TV set at that incredible price point.

The best deal without an invitation is the newest-generation Amazon Fire TV Cube at $110 (normally $140), which includes the ability to control the streaming device using just your voice. A remote is included for those who prefer one, and it’s one of the best remotes bundled with Amazon Fire TV device on the market.

Roku

Not a huge fan of Amazon Fire TV? Roku is another great option, and there’s a handful of streaming deals for Roku fans who are looking to switch to a new streaming operating system or add another Roku device to a bedroom, kitchen, den, office or kid’s room TV.

The Roku Express HD at $20 (normally $30) is one of the lowest prices for a base model Roku ever. The high-definition streaming gadget offers access to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, Hulu, YouTube, YouTube TV, Philo, Paramount Plus, Peacock, Max, Sling TV and thousands of other streaming apps — just plug it in, set up your account and get streaming in about five minutes.

Looking for something with a little more power, or want support for ultra-high definition (UHD/4K) video? Check out the Roku Express 4K Plus at $28, down from its usual price of $40.

Tablets

Take your streaming video with you by investing in a new tablet. Grab a great deal on the Amazon Fire HD 8-inch tablet at $55 (normally $100), which unlocks portable access to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, YouTube, YouTube TV, Sling TV and just about any other streaming app you can think of. Need a bigger screen? Spend $20 more on the Amazon Fire HD 10-inch tablet at $75 (normally $150).

Prefer something from Apple? The latest-generation iPad Mini is down to just $380 for the base model to $680 for the WiFi plus Cellular option with 256 GB of storage space. Normally, the iPad Mini costs $500 to $800, making these some of the best prices on the iPad MIni to date.

Streaming Services

Prime Day is a great opportunity to check out a new streaming service, maybe to catch up on a hit series or to find new movies or shows to watch.

Amazon offers its own subscriptions to third-party services through Prime Video Channels, which integrates directly into the Prime Video app on supported streaming devices, smart TVs, phones, tablets, game consoles and computers.

The best Prime Day deal is on Paramount Plus with Showtime at $6 a month for two months (normally $12 a month). Paramount Plus with Showtime includes hit shows like “Spongebob Squarepants,” “Yellowjackets,” “Shameless,” “1883,” “1923,” “Tulsa King,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Frasier,” “Cheers” and live access to Showtime and local CBS stations, along with thousands of other movies and TV shows, all within a single service.
