Rakuten TV has expanded the availability of its streaming television service by launching an app for users of Sony’s PlayStation 5 videogame console.
Starting this week, PlayStation 5 users in supported countries can download and install the Rakuten TV app, which will unlock access to hundreds of television shows and movies that are free to watch.
“This is a significant step forward in our growth and potential,” Sidharth Jayant, the chief product officer at Rakuten TV, said in a statement. “Building on the recent enhancement of our (free, ad-supported streaming) channels portfolio, we are delighted to now expand our collaboration to reach an even wider audience.”
In addition to the free, ad-supported titles, Rakuten TV users will be able to rent or purchase top Hollywood films for nominal fees.
The Rakuten TV app is available in several European territories, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Romania.
In addition to PlayStation 5 consoles, the Rakuten TV app is available on smart TVs made by Hisense, LG, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony and Vestel, as well as newer-model TVs that run on Android TV or Google TV.
