Pay television provider DirecTV has added a new round of CW Network affiliates to its Internet TV platform DirecTV Stream this month.
Customers in small- and medium-sized markets like El Paso, Texas; Springfield, Missouri; Wichita, Kansas and Syracuse, New York can now watch their local CW Network affiliate if they subscribe to the base programming package offered by DirecTV Stream, which starts at $80 per month before taxes and fees.
On Tuesday, DirecTV Stream brought four new CW Network affiliates online, bringing the total number of CW Network stations and affiliates available through the service to 90, according to a list obtained by The Desk.
The latest CW Network affiliates added to DirecTV Stream are:
- KNCT (Channel 46) in Waco, Texas
- KVIA-DT2 (Channel 7) in El Paso, Texas
- WSTM-DT2 (Channel 3) in Syracuse, New York
- WTVG-DT2 (Channel 13) in Toledo
Nexstar Media Group acquired a controlling stake in the CW Network in August 2022, buying 75 percent of the network from Paramount Global and Warner Bros Discovery. Most Nexstar-owned or controlled CW Network are offered through DirecTV Stream, and all are available on DirecTV’s satellite platform.
Nexstar’s arrangement with third-party broadcasters allow them to negotiate carriage of their CW Network affiliates with pay TV distributors, rather than go through Nexstar or an affiliate relations board. The arrangement is unique among broadcast networks, but also explains why DirecTV Stream has been slow to bring CW Network affiliates to its platform over the past few years.
