Nexstar Media Group is reviving its annual New Year’s Eve countdown special and fireworks show from Las Vegas, the company said on Tuesday.
The special, called “Coast-to-Coast Countdown to 2025,” will be produced by KLAS-TV (Channel 8), Nexstar’s CBS affiliate in Las Vegas, and will feature guest appearances and performances, a countdown to midnight and a fireworks show over the iconic Las Vegas strip.
In addition to the countdown in Las Vegas, the show will spotlight New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day festivities from throughout the United States, fronted in large part by coverage from Nexstar-owned or operated stations in major markets like New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Honolulu, Denver and Tampa.
“For almost three decades, the hard-working team at Nexstar has been dedicated to creating an unforgettable New Year’s Eve experience for viewers and party-goers,” Andy Alford, the President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said in a statement. “‘Coast to Coast Countdown to 2025 is top-notch entertainment and we are excited to ring in the New Year with almost 50 million U.S. households in more than 60 Nexstar television markets.”
This year, Nexstar will offer the special via nearly 70 local TV stations across the country; last year, the special aired on 55 stations. Outlets in New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, Phoenix, Albuquerque and Fresno will be among those carrying the special, Nexstar said.
While other broadcast networks air the New York City ball drop on a three-hour delay, the Nexstar special is one of the few to offer national coverage of live New Year’s Day festivities happening in the Pacific Time Zone, which helps the celebration stand apart from the rest.
Special guests at Coast to Coast Countdown include Rick Springfield, Lisa Lisa, George Thorogood, Morris Day, The Jacksons, Foreigner, Sheila E. and Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats.
“Coast to Coast Countdown to 2025 is not only great fun for the people here in Vegas, but it’s great fun for the viewers who watch us at home or follow us online,” Jay Howell, the Vice President and General Manager at KLAS-TV, said on Tuesday. “The guest list is amazing. And the Nexstar team that puts it together has really outdone themselves this year. It’s a fantastic way to kick off the new year!”
