Lionsgate Studios narrowed its financial loss to $15.5 million during its most-recent financial quarter as stronger motion picture performance and increased television production deliveries helped bring in much-needed cash in its post-Starz era.
Revenue during Lionsgate’s fiscal second quarter of 2027 (Q2 2027, coincides with calendar Q3 2026) was just under $669 million, compared with $475.1 million earned during the same time period last year on a carve-out basis. Operating income totaled $29.1 million, reversing a $46 million operating loss in the prior-year quarter.

Lionsgate’s Motion Picture division, which includes its theatrical film production unit, division generated $359.3 million in revenue, an increase of 30 percent from $276.4 million. Segment profit climbed to $88.7 million from $30.5 million, supported by the continued performance of its Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” and revenue generated from the company’s film library.
Television production earned $309.5 million, up 56 percent compared to last year. The studio continued to see healthy income from “Power: Origins” licensed to Starz, “The Studio” sent to Apple TV and “The Hunting Wives” on Netflix. Executives said scripted TV deliveries are expected to double through its fiscal year, which ends next summer.
Lionsgate also reported $1.04 billion in library revenue over the trailing 12 months, its second-highest total on record. The company maintains a library of more than 20,000 film and television titles, almost all of which are licensed to third-party streaming services, streaming channels, free apps like Tubi and The Roku Channel and premium subscription platforms.
Lionsgate also operates its own free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels distributed on platforms like The Roku Channel and MyFree DIRECTV, along with a premium subscription service sold via Amazon’s Prime Video Channels and other platforms called Moviesphere Plus.
“Our strong performance in the quarter reflects all of the pieces of our fiscal 2027 plan coming together, reaffirming our confidence in this year’s forecast of significant adjusted OIBDA growth,” Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in a statement.
Lionsgate ended September with $358.5 million in cash and cash equivalents and approximately $1.86 billion in current and long-term corporate debt, excluding film-related obligations. For the first six months of fiscal 2027, Lionsgate generated $1.45 billion in revenue, compared with $1 billion during the same period last year.
