Viaplay Group has launched a major upgrade to its streaming pay television platform Allente in the Nordic countries, the company announced on Tuesday.
A new interface recently went live across Allente in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland that is built on the 3Ready Platform offered by 3 Screen Solutions (3SS).
The upgraded Allente platform combines live television, streaming services and personalized profiles into a single interface. Viaplay said the goal is to better serve households where viewing habits now span traditional linear television, on-demand programming and third-party streaming apps. The rollout follows Viaplay’s full acquisition of Allente last year.
The service is powered by SDMC’s latest AI-enabled set-top box, which includes a 4 TOPS neural processing unit and a version of the Android TV operating system that is tailor-made for pay television providers.
A central part of the upgrade is 3Ready Experience Modes, which gives subscribers different versions of the interface depending on how they watch television. If a streamer last watched live TV, the next time they open the app, it will tune to the most-recently viewed channel — the same experience as if a customer had a traditional TV set-top box.
On Demand Mode is built for streaming-first viewers, opening on a personalized home screen with quick access to apps and recently watched programming. A dedicated Kids Mode offers a simplified environment with pre-filtered age-appropriate content.
Since it runs on Android TV, the updated Allente platform also allows Viaplay customers to download apps and watch content from other services like HBO Max, Sky Showtime, Amazon’s Prime Video and Apple TV. An included remote control includes shortcut buttons for Viaplay’s own apps and that of some third party services.
3SS technology now supports Allente services across smart TVs, mobile devices, Apple TV, Android TV, hybrid set-top boxes and hospitality TV products.
