DIRECTV is using next week’s Sports Equinox to promote its television packages and sports-focused viewing features, including a Multiview experience that allows customers to watch games from four major professional sports leagues simultaneously.

The Sports Equinox takes place Monday, October 26, when the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Hockey League (NHL) will all have games scheduled on the same day.

The relatively uncommon scheduling overlap provides DIRECTV with an opportunity to demonstrate how its satellite and streaming television services can help viewers navigate live sporting events distributed across multiple channels and platforms.

For the occasion, DIRECTV will offer a curated multiview presentation featuring four games, with one selected from each league, the company said this week. The feature allows customers to watch all four games on a single television screen, provided their subscription packages include the networks carrying the selected events.

DIRECTV is also promoting Sports Central, a feature designed to help customers find live and upcoming sporting events across supported television channels and streaming applications.

Sports Central allows viewers to follow individual teams, review game schedules and scores and receive alerts about upcoming games.

The company is pairing those features with promotional offers intended to attract new subscribers during the overlapping sports schedules: Customers who subscribe to DIRECTV’s Entertainment package can receive one month of Sports Pack at no additional charge.

DIRECTV is also promoting MySports, a sports-focused streaming television package that includes NFL Network, MLB Network, NBA TV and NHL Network. New MySports customers can begin with a five-day free trial.

DIRECTV is working with DraftKings on a free-to-play contest that allows participants to predict outcomes across the four professional sports leagues for a chance to win up to $5,000. Additional advertising will appear across connected television and digital video platforms, including 15-second and 30-second commercials.
