Gray Media combines newsrooms in Louisville

The combined newsroom brings together journalists from the local NBC and Fox affiliates in the Louisville market.

Gray Media has combined the newsrooms of its two television stations in Louisville, Kentucky, creating a single news operation that will produce local programming for broadcast television and streaming platforms.

The new multi-platform newsroom, which launched Monday, October 26, brings together more than 100 journalists from WDRB (Channel 41, Fox) and WAVE (Channel 3, NBC), making it one of the largest local television news operations in the country, according to Gray.

The consolidation is part of Gray’s broader “Local First” initiative, which emphasizes local journalism and community coverage across the company’s television stations.

Gray said the combined newsroom will focus on breaking news coverage throughout the day, investigative journalism, local sports and reporting on issues affecting communities throughout the Louisville television market.

“In building WDRB and WAVE, we assembled the largest team of journalists in the region, creating a local news powerhouse dedicated to serving our viewers first and better,” General Manager Jay Hiett said in a statement.

“Rooted in transparency, trust and local service, we’ll cover every corner of the viewing area. We are committed to telling your stories,” Hiett continued.

The combined operation will produce more than 80 hours of live news, weather and sports programming each week, with coverage distributed across the stations’ traditional broadcast channels and streaming services.
