Comcast puts NBC Sky World News channel on indefinite hiatus
Comcast has halted plans to launch a new global news channel co-branded with its NBC News and Sky satellite properties, according to a source.
Sky News is a free-to-access, international television news channel and multiplatform information brand operated by Comcast’s Sky Group. The channel started broadcasting in 1989, timed to coincide with the launch of Sky satellite television, and was part of British Sky Broadcasting until 2018.
Sky News operates two television channels: A domestic version that broadcasts free-to-air in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and a global variant that carries the same programming but with localized advertisements (in some countries, ad breaks are replaced with pre-recorded news clips and weather forecasts).
News programming and content is also distributed across various digital platforms, including the Sky News website, several social media accounts, podcasts and terrestrial radio. The channel is headquartered in London.
