Comcast’s Sky News is readying a British version of “Meet the Press” that will include discussion on domestic and foreign politics, among other topics.
The show, “Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips,” will debut on September 3 at 8:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time) and will run for 90 minutes each week.
Sunday Morning will offer a broad overview on political matters along with segments on science, business, technology, art and culture, officials with Sky News said in a statement on Wednesday.
Sir Trevor Phillips previously filled in as a guest host of Sky’s other political affairs show, “Sophy Ridge on Sunday,” becoming the first Black host of a flagship political television program in the United Kingdom.
“It’s a privilege to be inheriting the Sunday morning seat from my friend and colleague Sophy Ridge,” Phillips said on Wednesday. “The longer show will give us a chance to include a wider range of voices and to report what’s happening as it happens, but also to step back and ask if we’re really seeing the whole story.”

Phillips said the program will go beyond what Members of Parliament and other leading politicians say during the week — “we’ll be talking to people way beyond Westminster about business, about culture, about science and technology, religion and sport – all issues that shape the big political choices,” he affirmed.
“While we won’t be afraid to ask what needs to be asked, we know that viewers aren’t tuning in for a shouting match,” Phillips continued. “With us, the answers are always going to be more important than the questions — because that’s how we hold our leaders to account.”
Ridge will continue on at Sky News as a political correspondent. She will contribute reporting to Sunday Morning along with Sky’s other political correspondents, including Beth Rigby and Sam Coates.
“Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips comes just at the right time, with Beth Rigby, Sam Coates, Sophy Ridge, and all our robust team supporting a political report that’s second-to-none going into a critical election cycle,” David Rhodes, the executive chairman of Sky News, said on Wednesday. “Audiences will appreciate Trevor’s experience, intellect and warmth on-air and online each Sunday morning.”
