Sky News audio simulcast returns to TuneIn

After several years of being unavailable to American streamers, the audio simulcast of Sky News has returned to TuneIn, the company announced on Wednesday.

The deal brings back the Sky News simulcast to TuneIn for streamers in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland, and also offers access to Sky News podcasts, on-demand headlines and news content for commercial radio stations.

“We know that audio is increasingly important to our news audiences,” Pirya Sahathevan, the director of commercial and business development at Sky News, said in a statement. “This audio partnership with TuneIn offers Sky News audiences yet another way to access our award-winning journalism, keeping them connected to what is happening, wherever they are. Our extensive, multiplatform offering means trusted, impartial news is accessible to millions of people around the world, in whatever format suits best.”

Sky News was available on TuneIn throughout the world in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The simulcast ended for American streamers shortly after Sky Group was acquired by Comcast.

The agreement is part of a broader mission at Comcast to get Sky News in front of a new generation of news consumers. A streaming version of Sky News International has been available on YouTube and Paramount Global’s Pluto TV for some time now, and recently landed on Comcast’s streaming service Peacock.

The audio simulcast on TuneIn allows Sky News fans in the three countries to listen to the London-based channel on the go, particularly when they can’t be in front of a screen.

“Sky News is widely known for delivering breaking news, headlines and top stories from business, politics, entertainment and more,” Fergus Mellon, the general manager of TuneIn UK, said on Wednesday. “We are thrilled to grow our vast library of audio news content along with building our presence in the UK to help Sky News’ audience get the information they need the most on the go and 24-7.”

The Sky News audio simulcast will initially be available in the three countries on all platforms where TuneIn is available, including its website, smartphone apps, smart TV apps and smart speakers.

TuneIn is available in more than 100 countries and has over 75 million monthly active listeners.
