KTVU gaffe gets Taiwanese animation treatment

Next Media Animation, the Taiwanese animation studio known for its hilarious YouTube recreations of worldly events, has produced its take on the KTVU pilot identification gaffe that went viral last week.

The animation opens with two KTVU executives eating Panda Express at a conference table. One of the executives learns the names of four pilots on board Asiana Airlines Flight 214 from a “credible source” at the National Transportation Safety Board. The “credible source” is depicted as Bart Simpson.

“It’s unbelievable how no one at the station noticed this at all,” a NMA tipster told The Desk by email on Monday.

The NMA recreation of the KTVU incident can be viewed above. The video may not be safe for work, depending on where it is you work.

Over the weekend, Asiana Airlines had expressed interest in suing the Oakland, California television station over the incident. On Wednesday, Asiana announced it would not sue the station, citing KTVU’s multiple apologies for the gaffe.

Three people died when Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crashed upon landing at San Francisco International Airport on July 6.
