Kid Kelly, an iconic radio programmer who for nearly two decades helped launch a variety of key music channels for SiriusXM’s satellite and streaming radio services, has left the company, according two two reports.
The industry trade publication Radio and Music Pros (RAMP) reported on Friday Kelly departed the company this week, a move later confirmed by a SiriusXM spokesperson.
“After a long tenure at SiriusXM, Kid Kelly is no longer with SiriusXM, and we wish him the best in his new endeavors,” the representative said in statements to RAMP and the trade publication Variety.
It was not immediately clear if Kelly’s departure was his choice or the company’s. A SiriusXM spokesperson said his duties would be taken over by two company executives, Vice Presidents Alex Tear and Lou Simon.
Kelly started his broadcast career in 1983 and spent nearly a decade working for pop powerhouse WHTZ (100.3 FM), better known as “Z100,” in New York City. He joined SiriusXM in 2003 (then Sirius Satellite Radio) where he programmed key pop music stations, including the company’s flagship channel SiriusXM Hits 1.
