Car manufacturer Tesla has rolled out an update to its in-dashboard SiriusXM app and is offering customers a three-month free trial to test out the relaunched service.

The update is going out automatically this week to Tesla’s car customers, according to an email seen by The Desk.

For the last few months, software developers at Tesla have been re-tooling the SiriusXM app on its large-screen, center console touch displays, which serve as the central infotainment and feature hub for its Model S and Model X cars.

Tesla’s cars pull in SiriusXM’s satellite radio channels, which feature over 150 streams of commercial-free music, talk radio, cable news simulcasts and live sports play-by-play. This week, Tesla says drivers of its Model S and Model X cars will enjoy better channel organization — including channel groupings by category and genre — as well as album artwork and category descriptions when the new software rolls out to customers.

To test the software, Tesla is giving new and existing drivers a free three-month trial to SiriusXM’s All Access package, which includes 150 satellite radio channels in the car and over 100 more live and on-demand channels through SiriusXM’s supplemental smartphone app.

The free trial is available to Model S and Model X drivers with SiriusXM radios. The offer is not available to Model 3 and Model Y drivers because their cars do not come pre-equipped with SiriusXM tuners.
