Spotify is producing a three-part documentary on education and policy issues, according to a job listing spotted by The Desk.
The job advertisement seeks a dynamic host and reporter who is willing to narrate and interview for the untitled documentary project.
“This role will serve as the voice and lead interviewer for the project, and should have an interest in education and/or policy,” the job listing says.
Once seen as a power player in the streaming music space, Spotify has been aggressive in its pursuit of incorporating podcasts and other forms of media into its business strategy.
Last year, Spotify acquired three podcast companies — Gimlet Media, Anchor and Parcast — by shelling out a combined $404 million. Earlier this year, Spotify bought a fourth company, The Ringer, for nearly $200 million.
In May, Spotify announced it had forged an agreement with comedian Joe Rogan to license his popular “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast for its streaming service. Spotify said it would become the exclusive distributor of the Joe Rogan Experience audio and video podcasts starting next month.
Executives at Spotify say podcast listening has increased 200 percent this year compared to last, with around one in five subscribers listening to on-demand shows via its platform.
Spotify says it has nearly 300 million active monthly users, with 138 million paying to access various premium features. The service is available in more than 90 countries.
