Paramount Global’s big summer blockbuster is finally available on the company’s flagship streaming service, Paramount Plus.

“Top Gun: Maverick,” the sequel to “Top Gun” more than two decades in the making, became available to stream in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and several other countries on Paramount Plus this week, months after the film became available for home viewing through digital movie stories and on DVD and Blu-Ray.

The film follows the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise, as he returns to the Top Gun training program as an instructor. The movie is filled with high-octane action scenes, featuring impressive aerial stunts and special effects. The cinematography is top-notch, capturing the intensity and beauty of flying at high speeds. The soundtrack, which includes classic hits like “Take My Breath Away” and new songs from artists like Ed Sheeran, adds to the excitement and nostalgia of the film.

One of the highlights of the film is the relationship between Maverick and Bradshaw, who is the son of Maverick’s late friend and fellow pilot, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. The film explores themes of grief, legacy, and mentorship as Maverick grapples with the loss of his friend and takes on the role of a mentor to Bradshaw.

Cruise delivers a strong performance as Maverick, bringing back the charm and swagger of his character from the original film. The supporting cast, including Miles Teller as Bradley Bradshaw and Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin, also give solid performances.

In September, Paramount executives confirmed Top Gun: Maverick would start streaming on Paramount Plus around the holidays, but didn’t offer a specific date. Several weeks later, a Paramount official confirmed the movie would start streaming in the United Kingdom and Ireland on December 22, but there was still no word on when the film would be released on Paramount Plus in the United States.

Finally, last month, Paramount confirmed American streamers would have access to the film on Paramount Plus the same day it was released in other countries. On Thursday, the film was finally released on Paramount Plus. The first film in the franchise, Top Gun, is also available to stream.

Paramount Plus typically costs $5 a month or $50 a year for the ad-supported version that includes thousands of titles from Paramount Pictures, CBS, MTV and Nickelodeon (a premium version that removes commercials from on-demand content and offers live access to local CBS stations costs $10 a month or $100 a year). Right now, Paramount is giving new subscribers of Paramount Plus a 50 percent discount off the streamer’s annual plan, which knocks the price down to $25 for the first year of service (or $50 to streamers who opt for the ad-free version) when streamers sign up using this link.
