Elizabeth Vargas to host show for NewsNation

Journalist Elizabeth Vargas will host a new hour-long weekday news program for Nexstar Media Group’s cable news channel NewsNation, the company announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The show, “Elizabeth Vargas Reports,” will offer one-on-one interviews with headliners combined with on-the-ground reporting from NewsNation and Nexstar’s team of journalists. She will also contribute to NewsNation during the daytime hours and appear on the cable channel’s other prime-time news programs.

“Elizabeth Vargas is by far one of the most talented journalists working in television news today,” Michael Corn, the president of NewsNation, said in a statement on Tuesday. “Elizabeth Vargas is by far one of the most talented journalists working in television news today”

Vargas said she was “thrilled to join NewsNation,” where her program will start in April from a new set in New York City.

“The mission of NewsNation is more important now than ever: Delivering the news and newsmakers to all of America, and to cover the issues that truly matter to everyone, everywhere,” Vargas said.

Vargas is best known for her work as a contributor to “20/20,” ABC’s prime-time news magazine program, where she worked for 15 years. She also served as the host of Fox’s “America’s Most Wanted,” in ealry 2021.

Currently, Vargas is the host of “iCrime,” a program that originates at Nexstar-controlled WPIX (Channel 11) in New York City. It was not clear from Nexstar’s statement if she would continue on at that program when she joins NewsNation this spring.

Vargas joins a slate of other well-recognized NewsNation hosts and journalists, including former CNN host Chris Cuomo, Mediaite publisher Dan Abrams and ex-MSNBC journalist Ashleigh Banfield.
