Charter Communications says it will launch more than a dozen new community service programs that will provide job training opportunities in neighborhoods across its service footprint.
The program is part of the Spectrum Community Center Assist (SCCA) initiative, which is already available at 25 locations as part of the company’s $30 million commitment to provide community-related functions in the areas where it offers Spectrum-branded video and Internet products.
“Spectrum Community Center Assist is making a real difference by providing much-needed funding, tools and updated facilities to help people find new jobs and improve their economic situation,” Rhonda Crichlow, the SVP and Chief Diversity Officer for Charter, said in a statement e-mailed to The Desk on Thursday. “Already, thousands of people have participated in SCCA programs, and we look forward to continuing to expand our investment this year in the neighborhoods we serve.”
Charter provided this list of the new locations where the program is set to launch this year, though the company said final locations could change over time:
- Alabama: Jasper
- California: Bakersfield and Long Beach
- Florida: Dade City and Tampa
- Georgia: Carrolton
- Kentucky: Louisville
- Michigan: Saginaw
- New York: New York City and Syracuse
- North Carolina: Raleigh
- Ohio: Cincinnati
- Texas: El Paso and Harlingen
- Wisconsin: Appleton
Charter says it has served more than 7,500 citizens through the SCCA programs throughout the country. The company offers cash grants and in-kind contributions to help the programs operate at existing community centers; the grants and contributions go toward improving classroom spaces; obtaining new equipment like laptops and furniture; and refurnishing the buildings that house the centers. Charter also provides each center with Gigabit-speed Internet connections.
A spokesperson for the company said Charter is aiming to grow its SCCA program to over 100 locations.
Charter offers Spectrum-branded residential and business services in 41 states.
