The Washington Post is preparing to launch a free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel on Amazon’s Freevee service, the companies announced on Tuesday.

The channel, Washington Post Television, will offer live broadcasts during the week of news and current events of interest along with exclusive interviews with newsmakers and in-depth reporting from Post journalists on the front lines of major stories.

“We are thrilled to introduce The Post’s journalism on a service that has such incredible reach,” Micah Gelman, the director of video at the Washington Post, said in a statement. “On Amazon Freevee, we will be able to reach audiences who are increasingly looking online to get their news and entertainment.”

The channel will debut on May 6, timed for the coronation of King Charles III, and will include live coverage of the event direct from the United Kingdom. The company partnered with tech firm Amagi to develop the technology needed to power Washington Post Television, which will be free to access and generate revenue through advertisements.

Amazon has offered free streaming channels through its Prime Video subscription video service for several years now. It launched Freevee last year as a destination for television enthusiasts who wanted access to free content without a Prime membership.

In addition to Washington Post Television, Freevee carries several other FAST news channels, including ABC News Live, Fox Weather, LiveNow from Fox, Scripps News, Reuters TV, AccuWeather Now and Cheddar News.
