Amazon to offer MGM, WBD streaming channels on Freevee

Amazon will offer nearly two dozen free, ad-supported streaming channels from its MGM subsidiary and Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) on its free service Freevee.

The deal will see Freevee distribute linear content feeds of “Cake Boss,” “Say Yes to the Dress,” “Stargate” and “The Pink Panther,” along with specialty channels that offer television shows and movies from MGM and WBD.

In addition to Freevee, the channels will be available to Amazon Prime members through the Prime Video app, as well as through dedicated tiles on Amazon’s line of Fire TV streaming devices.

When the new MGM and WBD feeds launch, the total number of streaming channels offered through Freevee will eclipse 280, a spokesperson for Amazon said in a statement.

“[Free, ad-supported] channels offer Freevee viewers an always-on, 24-7, lean-back viewing experience that immediately connects them to a selection of TV shows, movies and unscripted programming such as news, sports and music,” Ryan Pirozzi, the Amazon executive in charge of Freevee, said this week. “MGM and [WBD] create content that appeals to a diverse fan base — action, comedy, drama, scripted, unscripted, and more. We are incredibly excited Freevee customers will have even more choice when it comes to what they can watch, whenever and however they choose.”

The deal expands the available content offered on Freevee, both on-demand and through linear content streams. Recently, Amazon inked an agreement with Lions Gate to provide nine channels of content, including feeds dedicated to the TV shows “Anger Management,” “Are We There Yet?” and “Nashville.” Those feeds are also available on competing services.

Other programmers offering channels through Freevee include the E. W. Scripps Company (Scripps News, Court TV, Ion), Fox Corporation (LiveNow from Fox, Fox Weather), the Washington Post and AccuWeather.
