Spanish broadcaster and marketing firm Entravision has selected a tech and banking executive as its new chief executive.
This week, Entravision said Michael Christenson has been hired to serve as the company’s new CEO, permanently succeeding former chairman and chief executive Walter F. Ulloa, who died earlier this year from a heart attack.
“We are excited to welcome Mike as Entravision’s next CEO,” Paul Zevnik, the chairman of Entravision’s board of directors, said in a statement. “Mike is a proven executive with operational and financial expertise and a track record of driving growth through operational execution and strategic acquisitions.”
Christenson previously held executive-level positions at the software company New Relic and development firm CA Technologies (the latter closed in 2018). He currently serves as a board member for a variety of companies, including Cowbell, Akeyless and Morphisec, and was listed as a managing partner at Mayten Research since last year.
“We are confident that his skills and experience will help us unlock opportunities to expand our digital, television and audio segments, enhance our offerings and strengthen our competitive position in international markets,” Zevnik said. “We are pleased that Mike will be joining our team to continue the mission that Walter Ulloa pursued in building the company over many years and with the same core values that Walter instilled in the people of Entravision.”
Christenson’s media experience appears relatively thin, judging from his online resume and the prior jobs that were touted in an Entravision press release. Still, the company board thinks he has the financial skillset to lead the company through an ever-changing broadcast and digital landscape.
“I am honored to join the team at Entravision,” Christenson said. “Entravision is an industry leader with a unique value proposition and an impressive suite of digital marketing services across its global footprint. As a leading global advertising solutions, media and technology company, Entravision is well positioned for continued growth and I look forward to leveraging my expertise and working together with the talented team to reach even greater heights.”
Entravision is the largest independent owner of Univision and Unimas-affiliated television stations in the United States. It also owns radio station in key broadcast markets, including Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, Denver, El Paso, Albuquerque and Sacramento.
