A former on-air reporter at KCBS Radio has left the station to join San Francisco’s flagship newspaper.

On Tuesday, the San Francisco Chronicle announced it hired Keith Menconi to serve as an audio producer on the newspaper’s flagship podcast called “Fifth & Mission.”

At the Chronicle, Menconi will help produce the daily news program, which gives readers an opportunity to dive deeper into local news and current events with the newspaper reporters who cover them. He started at the Chronicle earlier this week.

“It is so exciting that the Fifth & Mission team is growing,” Cecilia Lei, a co-host of the podcast, said in a statement. “Our listeners will get to benefit from Keith’s deep knowledge of Bay Area issues, as well as his wide range of experience with audio reporting and storytelling.”

Menconi worked at Audacy’s KCBS (740 AM, 106.9 FM) for five years, serving as an on-air host and reporter who covered a wide variety of breaking news, including wildfires, floods, protests and local elections. He also served as the on-air voice behind the station’s weekly current events program, “KCBS In-Depth.”

“It was a wild ride, and I’ll be forever grateful to the tremendous news team I had the privilege of working with,” Menconi said of his time at KCBS.

Menconi began his broadcast career at public radio station KQED in early 2012, working as an intern radio reporter and producer for nearly a year. He then moved to Taiwan, where he worked as a teacher before finding a job as a broadcast journalist for International Community Radio Taipei, a position he held for five years.

Menconi returned to the Bay Area in 2017, serving as a community reporter for the Bay Area News Group based in Cupertino.

The San Francisco Chronicle is owned by Hearst Corporation, which also owns and operates the website SFGate.com.
