Ryan Reynolds, Fubo partner on “Discontinued” documentary series

Maximum Entertainment Channel, the collaborative effort between comedian Ryan Reynolds and streaming television service Fubo, has unveiled the trailer for the partnership’s first docuseries.

The program, called “Discontinued” will run at least 10 episodes during its inaugural season on Maximum Effort Channel. The show will explore past brands, products and phenomenon that had significant pop culture moments or were otherwise cherished by past generations, but have since been relegated to the history books.

The series will be directed by Brian Volk-Weiss, who previously served as the showrunner for the popular Netflix docuseries “The Movies that Made Us.” Reynolds will serve as executive producer, and Maximum Effort has tapped “Evil Dead” actor Bruce Campbell to guide viewers through the series as its narrator.

Some of the topics that are expected to come up include the video rental chain Blockbuster (which, coincidentally, went out of business around the time people started growing comfortable watching their videos online), the BlackBerry (replaced by smartphones with giant glass screens) and Google Glass (like non-fungible tokens, it had a moment, and then didn’t).

The docuseries is expected to premiere on the Maximum Effort Channel on Thursday, November 30 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. The following week, the show will move to Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

Maximum Effort Channel is available as a free streaming channel across a number of no-cost platforms, including Amazon Freevee, LG Channels, Vizio WatchFree Plus, Plex and Sling Freestream. Maximum Effort Channel is also available on the new 4th-generation Tablo DVRs for free broadcast and streaming TV, and a pay TV version of Maximum Effort Channel is bundled into all programming packages on Fubo, which starts at $75 per month plus tax and other fees.
