Telefónica’s pay television platform Movistar Plus will integrate content from Comcast and Paramount’s streaming joint venture Sky Showtime when it launches early next year.
The partnership will see Sky Showtime content available within a dedicated section of Movistar Plus once the service becomes available to Spanish streamers in February, the companies announced this week. Access to Sky Showtime will be unlocked to those with MoviStar Plus’ “Ficción miMovistar” pay television package.
“We are very happy with this agreement,” Cristina Burzako, the CEO of Movistar Plus, said in a statement. “On the one hand, we welcome an international platform with high value and quality content, and on the other, we will be able to incorporate new content in a more-accessible and intuitive way for our customers.”
“This is a momentous deal for both Movistar Plus and Sky Showtime, and we are proud to be bringing our amazing entertainment to even more subscribers in Spain,” Monty Sarhan, the CEO of Sky Showtime, said this week. “Our agreement demonstrates the importance and strength of partnerships and how we can work together to drive value for our respective businesses.”
As in other countries, Comcast and Paramount will be bringing the best from their respective content catalogs to Sky Showtime via Movistar Plus, including Paramount’s hit series “Yellowstone,” NBC Universal’s workplace sitcom “The Office,” Paramount Pictures blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” and Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic Park.”
Sky Showtime is currently available to purchase in Spain without a dedicated pay TV package.
