Customers of Charter Communication’s Spectrum TV service will get complementary access to The Weather Channel’s streaming TV app if their plan includes the climate-focused network on cable TV.
The perk is part of a new multi-year agreement between Charter and The Weather Channel’s majority owner Allen Media Group, which extends distribution of other Allen Media-owned channels like The Grio, Justice Central, Cars.TV and several local television stations across the country.

The Weather Channels’ streaming TV app offers live access to the TV network for $3 per month or $30 per year, and doesn’t require a traditional cable or satellite subscription to view.
Under the agreement reached with Charter this week, Spectrum TV customers who have access to The Weather Channel as part of their programming package won’t have to pay a separate fee to watch The Weather Channel through the network’s TV app — they’ll only need to log in to the app using their Spectrum TV username and password.
In that respect, the agreement is similar to one Charter reached with the Walt Disney Company last year, which includes complementary access to Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus across some Spectrum TV plans.
Unlike the Disney deal, the agreement between Charter and Allen Media Group didn’t follow a programming blackout of certain channels. Instead, both sides were able to successfully negotiate a new agreement that kept The Weather Channel and other Allen Media-owned networks on Spectrum TV for several more years.
The channels that will be offered on Spectrum TV under the new agreement include:
- Cars.TV
- JusticeCentral.TV
- Pets.TV
- Recipe.TV
- The Grio
- The Weather Channel
In addition to the flagship cable network, The Weather Channel’s streaming TV app also includes access to The Weather Channel en Español and the climate-focused digital platform Pattrn, as well as on-demand titles from across the three services.
The Weather Channel en Español and Pattrn are also offered on Xumo Play, the free, ad-supported streaming service operated as a joint venture between Charter and peer cable TV operator Comcast.
