Radio broadcaster Cumulus Media has promoted Shoshana Shapiro to the role of Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Marketing, the company announced on Monday.
Shapiro previously served as a vice president overseeing the company’s internal and external communication initiatives. In her new role, Shapiro joins Cumulus’ leadership team and will include oversight of marketing as part of her duties. She will continue to report to Cumulus President and CEO Mark G. Berner.
“Shoshana’s promotion is a reflection of the essential and unique role that she has played at Cumulus over the last nine years,” Berner said in a statement. “Her communications work has helped us build one of the healthiest and most positive corporate cultures in our industry. Her revenue generation efforts have resulted in millions of dollars of incremental revenue for the company and significant improvements in the competitiveness of our local market sellers.”
Berner continued: “Moreover, her insights and collaborative spirit have made her an invaluable member of our leadership team, and I’m looking forward to her continued success in this new role.”
Shapiro joined Cumulus in 2017, where she worked as a director to the CEO. She previously worked as the Director of Special Projects and Events for MPA, the Association of Magazine Media (previously the Magazine Publishers Association), which merged with the News Media Alliance two years ago.
Shapiro also worked with Rosie O’Donnel’s production company KidRo, and was occasionally heard on the SiriusXM channel “Rosie Radio,” where she served as a segment producer. Cumulus appeared to be the next logical step in a career filled with senior roles at production companies, radio broadcasters and trade associations.
“When Mary gave me the opportunity to help build the communications function at Cumulus, I had no idea how gratifying that experience would be,” Shapiro said in a statement. “Equally rewarding has been the ability to support so many revenue-generating initiatives, and I’m eager to expand my efforts in those areas. I’m greatly appreciative of Mary’s leadership and mentorship and am excited to continue to work with the entire Cumulus team to build value for all our constituencies.”
Cumulus owns or operates more than 400 local radio stations in nearly 90 media markets across the country. The company’s business also includes radio syndication service Westwood One and distribution responsibilities for Infinity Sports Network (formerly CBS Sports Radio).
