Fans of French television series, documentaries and movies can now stream thousands of titles from within Echostar’s streaming service Sling TV thanks to an expanded partnership with public service broadcaster TV5 Monde, the companies announced this week.
Echostar’s satellite TV service, Dish Network, has sold standalone subscriptions to the linear TV5 Monde channel for years. Subscriptions to TV5 Monde Plus, the standalone streaming service, were also available, though users had to use the TV5 Monde Plus app to watch content.
Not anymore. This week, TV5 Monde affirmed Sling TV has fully integrated the broadcaster’s application programming interface, or API — which means customers who purchase a subscription to TV5 Monde Plus can now watch content from the broadcaster from within the Sling TV app.
“By allowing subscribers to access all of TV5 Monde Plus inside of Sling TV, without having to switch between apps or devices, is a landmark moment for our streaming offering,” said Patrice Courtaban, the Executive Vice President of Global Growth and Business Development at TV5 Monde. “We are grateful to be among the very few streaming services to have its API integrated into Sling TV, which is a testament to our long-term, mutually-beneficial partnership.”
The partnership comes on the heels of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which concluded its two-week run last week. Among the thousands of titles offered by TV5 Monde Plus are special programs that focus on Olympic and Paralympic athletes who have competed or will compete in Paris. The 2024 Summer Paralympic Games start later this month.
The service is also set to debut a program called “Paris, Capital of Fashion: 50 Years of Fashion Week,” which will spotlight France’s deep history with fashion and explore how Paris became the global capital for the industry.
Programs are offered in the French language, with subtitles in English, Spanish, French, German, Korean, Dutch, Arabic, Romanian, Japanese and Vietnamese.
TV5 Monde Plus is included with a subscription to the linear TV5 Monde channel. Sling TV offers TV5 Monde in its French language package of channels, which costs $15 per month after a 7-day free trial.
