The Broadcasters Foundation of America (BFOA) have selected Brian Lawlor to receive its Golden Mic Award this year.

Lawlor, the President of the E. W. Scripps Company’s Scripps Sports division, will be honored at the BFOA’s annual black tie fundraiser event on Monday, March 10 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Lawlor is a member of the BFOA’s board who is credited with steering the national programming strategy at Scripps, including the launches of “Right This Minute” and “The List,” before taking on his current role as the top executive at Scripps Sports. While at Scripps Sports, Lawlor has effectuated deals involving the National Women’s Soccer League and the Women’s National Basketball Association, giving both sports franchises greater reach through over-the-air and streaming television.

“I am honored at this recognition from the Broadcasters Foundation, a charity that brings much-needed help to our colleagues,” Lawlor said. “I have been a supporter of the Foundation and serve on their Board, and I know first-hand the heartbreaking stories of those who we help.”

“Brian is a leader in broadcasting, who guided Scripps to expand their portfolio of stations and become one of the largest television groups in America,” noted Scott Herman, the Chairman of the Broadcasters Foundation. “His hard work at advancing the mission of the Broadcasters Foundation, as well as his contributions to the television industry, makes him a perfect candidate to receive the Golden Mic Award.”

“Brian is a highly respected member of the television broadcasting community and a staunch supporter of the Broadcasters Foundation,” added Tim McCarthy, the President of the Broadcasters Foundation. “We are delighted to bestow on him this well-deserved honor.”

The BFOA Golden Mic Award is bestowed upon an individual in broadcasting who demonstrate their excellence and commitment to the industry, as well as their ongoing service to the community. Previous Golden Mic winners include Jordan Wertlieb of Hearst Television, Bob Pittman of iHeart Media, Emily Barr of Graham Media Group, Perry Sook of Nexstar Media Group and Jack Abernathy of Fox Television Stations, among others.

The mission of the BFOA is to provide assistance to those who have acute financial needs due to natural disasters or other personal financial hardships.
