Dave Howitt, a television executive who has spent more than three decades with broadcaster Sinclair, Inc., will retire from the industry at the end of March.
Howitt has spent 48 years in the television broadcast industry, most recently serving as Sinclair’s Senior Vice President of Programming, where he oversaw the programming strategy and acquisition of syndicated show for 90 stations covering 43 regional markets.
“I’ve had the privilege of working alongside incredible people at Sinclair, stations, program distribution companies, and networks,” Howitt said in a statement. “Throughout my career, I’ve had a front-row seat to the evolution of television, particularly in broadcast syndication and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities this industry has provided.”
“We salute Dave and his contributions to making Sinclair one of the nation’s largest local media companies,” Arthur Hasson, the acting Chief Operating Officer of Programming, said on Monday. “Dave’s expertise extends across all aspects of our industry, and he will be greatly missed”
In response to Howitt’s retirement, Sinclair has promoted two executives within its programming division: Linda Greenwald and Matthew Diehlmann have been named Directors of Programming.
Prior to joining Sinclair, Howitt worked in programming and management roles at WUAB (Channel 43) in Cleveland and WTTV (Channel 4, CBS) in Bloomington, Indiana. He has worked with a number of broadcasting companies over the year, including United Artists, Gaylord, Cannell, and River City. He joined Sinclair in 1994.
