Free TV Networks and legendary actress Pam Grier are teaming up on a new free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel that offers around-the-clock independent Black cinema.

The channel, called Soul Flix, is “a celebration of our legacy,” Grier said in a statement on Tuesday after the channel landed on free streaming platforms Plex and The Roku Channel.

“I could not be more pleased with my Free TV Networks partnership — it builds upon my life’s work to support all independent women and fans of Black cinema,” Grier said. “These films don’t just entertain – they inspire, empower, and tell stories that need to be heard. As someone who’s lived through this journey and fought to bring strong characters to life, I’m thrilled to shine the spotlight on the brilliance and resilience of our community.”

“We are beyond thrilled to announce our collaboration with Pam Grier, a true icon,” Jonathan Katz, the President and CEO of Free TV Networks, said on Tuesday. “Her groundbreaking contributions to film and television have left an indelible mark on the industry; and her talent, charisma, and authenticity continue to inspire generations. Partnering with Pam on this exciting new venture is truly an honor, as she showcases the cultural pillars of Black filmmaking.”

Grier is the perfect icon to serve as the face of the Soul Flix channel: Her star credits include flims like “Foxy Brown,” “Friday Foster,” “Sheba, Baby,” “The Big Doll House,” and “Black Mama, White Mama,” and she appeared in legendary Hollywood films like “Something Wicked Comes This Way,” “Larry Crowne,” “Ghost of Mars,” “Escape from LA” and “Mars Attacks!,” among others. Quentin Tarantino once described Grier as “cinema’s first female action star.”

She transcended the world of film with a number of television roles during a career that spanned five decades, including guest stars and cameos in “Miami Vice,” “Night Court,” “The Cosby Show,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “Martin,” “Sinbad,” “Mad TV,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and “Bless This Mess.”

Soul Flix is the third FAST channel launched by Free TV Networks since its formation in 2023, with simulcasts of the company’s multicast networks Outlaw and The365 also available on free streaming platforms. The company also broadcasts Defy and Busted on over-the-air TV stations across the country. Free TV Networks operates as a joint venture between Gray Media, Lionsgate and Warner Bros Discovery.
