Comcast’s NBC Universal has hired Joel Davis to oversee its two television stations in Philadelphia, the company announced on Tuesday.
Davis comes to WCAU (Channel 10, NBC) and WWSI (Channel 62, Telemundo) from Raleigh, where he served as Vice President and General Manager of WRAL (Channel 5, NBC) and WRAZ (Channel 50, Fox) for Capitol Broadcasting.
He will reprise the role at WCAU and WWSI, where he will oversee all aspects of NBC’s local TV broadcasting, digital and streaming properties in Philadelphia. He will also oversee NBC Sports Philadelphia, the regional sports network that carries locally-televised games from the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers, as well as pre- and post-game shows for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Davis reports to Valari Staab, the Chairman and NBC Universal Local, who referred to him as a “proven local media executive whose experience, passion and strategic leadership has guided success and growth across broadcast, streaming and digital platforms in several markets.”
“We are pleased he is joining our Philadelphia properties to further their impact on the communities they serve,” Staab said.
In addition to overseeing WCAU, WWSI and their streaming and digital properties, Davis will work closely with Bill Bridgen, the President of NBC Sports Regional Networks, and Telemundo Station Group President José Cancela, the company said.
Davis will join NBC Universal in mid-March.
