Comcast boosts Xfinity Internet speeds

Comcast is boosting the download and upload speed of some popular Xfinity Internet plans for residential customers, and sweetening the deal for subscribers on older, slower plans by offering a wireless phone line.

Starting this week, all customers — except those on Gigabit Extra plans — have increased upload speeds, and those on Connect More, Fast, Superfast, 1 Gigabit and 2 Gigabit have better download speeds as well.



The new upload and download speeds across Xfinity’s residential Internet plans are:

  • Now 100: 100 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload
  • Now 200: 200 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload
  • Connect: 150 Mbps download, 100 Mbps upload
  • Connect More: 400 Mbps download, 150 Mbps upload
  • Fast: 600 Mbps download, 150 Mbps upload
  • Superfast: 800 Mbps download, 150 Mbps upload
  • 1 Gigabit: 1,100 Mbps download, 300 Mbps upload
  • 2 Gigabit: 2,100 Mbps download, 300 Mbps upload

Subscribers on “Gigabit Extra” will continue to receive 1,200 Mbps download speeds and 300 Mbps upload speeds.



New and existing customers on Xfinity’s current Internet plans are also being given the opportunity to add one Xfinity Mobile wireless phone line, with Comcast covering the cost of the unlimited phone line for 12 months. The offer is available to Comcast customers with a “Connect More” or faster Xfinity Internet plan. Typically, the unlimited Xfinty Mobile plan costs $40 per month plus taxes.

“Our faster download and upload speeds, combined with our world-class Wi-Fi equipment, ultra-low-lag Internet experience, and Wi-Fi PowerBoost that delivers speeds up to a gig, are providing customers with a converged connectivity experience that we believe is unmatched in the industry,” Emily Waldorf, the Senior Vice President of Consumer Products at Comcast’s Connectivity and Platforms business, said in a statement.



“Because 90 percent of Xfinity Mobile Internet traffic travels over Wi-Fi, not cellular, this combination of products delivers a faster Internet and mobile experience and hundreds of dollars of savings to customers,” Waldorf continued.

To that end, Comcast customers with Xfinity Internet service have access to public Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots across the country, and phones that operate on Xfinity Mobile seamlessly transition between the cellular network and Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots.
